History Course Information
Key Stage 3
In Year 7 students learn what History is. They complete a local study on Corby which starts with the Vikings and looks at the History of the town. They then move onto study Medieval Realms starting with 1066. They also study the Tudors and the Stuarts.
In Year 8 students study African Empires and the Slave Trade and Abolition. They then move onto World War One, the Interwar Years, World War Two and Twentieth Century USA.
Throughout KS3 students learn the skills Historians use to discover the past. We look at the use of evidence, analysis, evaluation and giving a substantiated judgement.
Key Stage 4 GCSE
We teach EDEXCEL GCSE History: Medicine in Britain c1250-present day and the British sector of the Western Front, Early Elizabethan England 1558-88, The American West, c1835-1895 and Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-39
A Level - Year 12 & 13
Year 12 & 13 will be completing the OCR A Level. They will study:
- Italy 1896-1943
- England 1485-1558; Early Tudors
- Civil Right in the USA 1865-1992
- Topic based essay; 3000-4000 words on topic of student’s own choice
