Expressive and Performing Arts

The Expressive and Performing Arts (EPA) Department covers a wide spectrum of subjects linked by a common thread of creativity. We have grouped together Dance, Drama, Media Studies and Music as sister subjects, exploring a huge range of artistic expression from digital to visual, aural and physical.

We recognise the increasing links between our subjects and draw upon these links as one of our key strengths.

Drama lessons ask the students to explore through experience, using drama as a tool for studying human nature as well as a form of entertainment. Music lessons look back at the ancient roots of harmony, melody and rhythm and go on to explore the myriad of structures and styles through to the present. Likewise, Dance lessons explore a wide variety of styles from around the world, covering classical, contemporary and modern methods. Media Studies lessons task students with examining their consumption of TV, film, video games and other media technologies to question how and why they are made.

In all of the EPA subjects, students will develop and use skills and abilities they might never have thought of as being useful in school. The consistently high achievement in our subjects shows the students' true potential when they are engaged and enjoying their learning.
