Year 9;

Pupils will be able to: 

  • Understand dietary needs and requirements. 

  • Understand the functions of nutrients. 

  • Describe government guidelines.  

  • Describe factors that influence diet and nutrition. 

  • Create a meal plan for an individual with a dietary condition.  

  • Analyse the diet plan in terms of meeting their dietary requirements, meeting the government guidelines and including the required amount of nutrients. 

  • Select ingredients for a two course meal which reflects their dietary needs. 

  • Carries out an analysis of the planned two course meal in terms of how well it meets their needs.  

  • Create the two course meal independently while following health and hygiene measures

Year 10;

Pupils will be able to: 

  • Identify the rights which should be maintained in health and social care. 

  • Understand why it is important that personal and service details are always kept up to date. 

  • The importance of promoting equality and diversity. 

  • Understand why discriminatory behaviour should be challenged. 

  • Identify care values and understand why they should be applied in settings.  

  • Understand why it is important to be a reflective practitioner. 

  • To be able to identify the legislation in place to protect individuals in health and social care settings and the impact of these pieces of legislation.  

  • Understand the importance of good hygiene and analyse the consequences should these measures not be applied.  

  • Explain different methods of communication. 

  • Describe factors that influence communication, barriers and how to overcome them.  

  • Describe personal qualities that contribute to care. 

  • Plan for two role plays to demonstrate how different communication methods and personal qualities should be used in context. 

  • Demonstrate communication skills in two role plays. 

Year 11;

Pupils will be able to: 

  • Explain physical, intellectual, emotional and social development.  

  • Describe the ageing process and the difference in personal roles as we age. 

  • Provide a detailed overview of how development is affected by specific birth and non-birth conditions.  

  • Describe the effects on health and well-being for individuals and their families if they have a birth/non-birth condition. 

  • Produce a support plan for a chosen individual with a birth/non-birth condition.  

Year 12;

Pupils will be able to: 

  • Identify part, explain functions and malfunctions of the cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestive system, musculoskeletal system, control and regulatory system and sensory system while analysing the impact on individuals.  

  • Describe dietary and government guidelines. 

  • Explain how requirements differ for individuals. 

  • Analyse the effects of poor nutrition.  

  • Evaluate the possible causes of poor nutrition.  

  • Explain factors that influence nutritional health.  

  • Evaluate the diet and nutrition of an individual. 

  • Develop a diet plan to improve diet and nutrition following an evaluation of their diet. 

  • Analyse the sustainability of the developed diet plan.  

  • Understand the concepts of equality, diversity and rights and how these are applied in context. 

  • Understand the impact of discriminatory practices on individuals in health, social and child care environments. 

  • Understand how current legislation and national initiatives promote anti-discriminatory practice in health, social care and child care environments.  

  • Understand how equality, diversity and rights in health, social and child care environments are promoted.

Year 13;

Pupils will be able to: 

  • Understand the potential hazards in health, social and child care environments. 

  • Understand how legislation, policies and procedures promote health, safety and security in health, social and child care environments. 

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities involved in health, safety and security in health, social and child care environments.  

  • Know how to respond to incidents and emergencies in a health, social or child care environment.
