Sixth Form Performance of ''Gunpowder, Treason and Plot''

Our Sixth Form National BTEC Performing Arts students were the centre of attraction at the National Trust's Lyveden New Bield on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th November 2009.

The project, sponsored by the Arts Council, was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the students’ work to a sell-out crowd of over 500 spectators on each evening. The project told the story of Guy Fawkes and the links the conspirators had with the Tresham family and Lyveden New Bield itself. As always, the students were excellent ambassadors for the school and there were many comments about the professionalism of their performance – including the ones below from Mark Bradshaw of the National Trust and Paul Bolton – one of the audience who took the trouble to e-mail the National Trust and us with his congratulations.

Paul Bolton wrote:

‘To all of those concerned, particularly the students from the Kingswood School, I'd like to say how much my three children and I enjoyed the Gunpowder Plot fireworks production/display this evening . . . The students should be commended on their performance throughout the production and the lighting/multimedia performance did more than justice to the magnificent backdrop.’

And in reply, Mark Bradshaw wrote:

‘I completely echo your praise for the students of Kingswood - they were fantastic. Many people I spoke to had assumed they were professional actors and their performance clearly commanded this opinion. I am delighted you enjoyed the performance and the feedback from last night has been excellent.’

This was a fantastic event which – once again – marks us out as a very special Specialist Arts College where the students have so many opportunities to take part in events such as this.

Well done to everyone who took part!
