A-level success for Kingswood Secondary Academy students

 Students at the Kingswood Secondary Academy are celebrating after receiving their results for their A-level or equivalent courses of study.

Performance in academic qualifications has improved with 63 per cent of students achieving a grade C or above in their A-levels. What is even more impressive is that 60 per cent of pupils have achieved two or more A-levels and 35 per cent of students achieved three or more A-levels which represents a 12 percentage point increase on last year’s result.

Performance in vocational qualifications is high with 84 per cent achieving grade C or above in vocational equivalents of A-levels. This year, 76 per cent have achieved two or more vocational equivalents of A-levels which is a 12 per cent increase on last year’s result and above the national Post-16 results for 2014. What is even more impressive is that 38 per cent of students have achieved three or more vocational equivalents of A-levels.

Whilst all the students have done remarkably well, a number have particular cause to celebrate:

  • Agate Jaremba who joined the Academy in Year 12 from overseas with limited English has attained a Distinction* in Business, a Distinction* in Travel & Tourism and a Grade B in Health & Social Care.
  • Dean Lafferty who has been great ambassador for the Academy since joining in Year 7, has attained a Grade A in Business and Grade B’s in Art & Design, English Language and Geography.
  • Cara Logue who has attained a Distinction* in Business, a Distinction* in Computing and a grade C in Health & Social Care.
  • Abigail Munro who attained grade B’s in Geography, Politics and History.

Tony Meneaugh, Acting Principal, said: “The Kingswood Secondary Academy has continued to build on its strengths. Our pupils deserve to be very proud of the grades they have achieved; it will provide them with a great springboard for their future endeavours.”

The Kingswood Secondary Academy is one of the 27 Academies sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust. Chief Executive of the GDFT, Sir Barry Day, OBE, said: “Once again we are proud of the success of the pupils at the Kingswood Secondary Academy and wish them all the best as they continue their education or enter employment.”
