Kingswood Secondary Academy

Ofsted Good

Pathways Day

The Kingswood Secondary Academy Sixth Form Pathways event took place on Tuesday 11th November 2014. This was the first time we had held this type of event where Universities, outside agencies and employers were invited to the Academy to provide workshops to raise awareness of employment routes if students chose to study at university.

Advisers from De Montfort, Nottingham and Newcastle Universities joined speakers from a variety of professions, ranging from Law to Engineering, NHS to the Creative Society, to provide workshops throughout the day. The workshops explored the skills required to study at degree level and equipped the students with the tools to succeed academically.

All students from Year 11 and 12 participated in the event, with a selection of students from all of the other year groups joining them at various workshops throughout the day. It was an exciting, successful day which gave the students the opportunity to explore career pathways and routes into Higher Education, and encouraged high aspirations, confidence and understanding of how to achieve their full potential. The speakers engaged the students throughout the day, and several of the younger students were heard to say that they felt proud to have been invited to join the activities.

The event was followed later in the day by our Sixth Form Open Evening where Year 11 students from Kingswood and other schools were invited to come along to meet staff and students to see our range of facilities and pick up a prospectus to find out what courses we have on offer at both Levels 2 and 3. The advisers from the Universities stayed on for the Open Evening and were joined by representatives from Connexions and Nital, a local Apprenticeship agency, who were available to advise and provide useful information about Higher Education, training and future career prospects.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the event and look forward to next year’s event.
